Scientific Context: Infinity is affiliated to INSERM, CNRS and Toulouse University. The institute brings together approximately 300 researchers, clinicians, teaching researchers and engineers, as well as young scientists, including post-doctoral fellows and doctoral/master students.
Our team focuses on Hepatitis E virus (HEV), a significant and emerging public health concern. Our group is internationally recognized for its expertise in HEV biology, molecular virology, and viral evolution. We offer a dynamic, collaborative environment and support for scientific mobility. Recently, we identified HEV variants that have incorporated portions of human genes into their genome. In vitro studies evidence that some of these virus-host recombinant variants exhibit a replicative advantage.
The Project: The successful candidate will drive a project-focused research program aimed at understanding virus-host recombinant HEV lifecycle. The research will involve virology, cell culture, reverse genetics, mutagenesis, and RNA sequencing. The role offers scientific autonomy, opportunities to co-supervise students, and participation in national and international collaborations, including an active partnership with a Swiss laboratory.
Candidate Profile: We’re looking for a motivated candidate with a strong interest in virology. PhD in a relevant field at the time of appointment is required. Candidates with prior postdoctoral experience is a plus. Candidates are expected to have a strong publication record, good communication skills, and the ability to work independently.
This position is designed to support the successful candidate in building a competitive research profile, with the long-term perspective of applying for a permanent research position in our group.
Location: Toulouse, France. Your research stay will take place in Toulouse, a vibrant, student-friendly city in the south of France. Known for its sunny weather, rich culture, aerospace industry, and excellent cuisine, Toulouse offers an outstanding quality of life. It’s also ideally located between the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees mountains, perfect for weekend getaways.
