The Evans Lab at the University of California, Irvine seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to study the coevolution and functional biology of flaviviruses and their hosts. The lab combines virology, molecular biology, and high-throughput mutational approaches to understand how viral and host proteins evolve and how these constraints shape viral replication, host interactions, and pathogenesis. Projects may involve molecular cloning, viral genetics, cell culture infection systems, and large-scale mutational analysis such as deep mutational scanning.
The successful candidate will design and carry out independent research projects within this framework while working closely with the Principal Investigator and other lab members. The position offers opportunities to develop new experimental approaches, publish high-impact work, and build a strong foundation for an independent scientific career.
Requirements:
PhD in virology, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field. Ability to design and carry out independent research projects and to analyze and interpret experimental data. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research team.
Experience with:
Familiarity with basic programming or scripting for biological data analysis (e.g., Python, R, or similar tools) is desirable but not required.
